Physics & AP Physics Tutoring

Tutoring aligned with your curriculum.

At The Student Whisperer, Physics tutoring is our signature specialty. We have helped college and high school students go from overwhelmed to earning A’s.

We serve high school students enrolled in Academic Level, Honors, and AP Physics courses across KISD, LCISD, HISD, and Houston-area private schools, as well as college students, in-person or online tutoring nationwide.

Why Students Struggle with Physics & AP Physics

Many students struggle with conceptual questions, which require reasoning rather than performing calculations. In AP Physics, a significant portion of the multiple-choice questions assess conceptual understanding of physics principles.

As the pace and complexity increase, gaps in understanding can make new topics more difficult. Success in Physics requires more than memorizing formulas. Students must understand the underlying concepts, determine which principles apply to solve unfamiliar problems.

What Makes Us Different

How The Student Whisperer Helps

Before every session, our tutors review the student’s current classroom materials, schedule, and upcoming assessments. We break down difficult concepts, strengthen areas of weakness, and guide students through problem-solving to prepare them for classroom assessments.

We emphasize the reasoning behind the equations, helping students understand how even a fundamental principle like Newton’s Second Law can be applied to increasingly complex situations involving frictional forces, circular motion, and energy.

For AP Physics, we take this understanding further, moving beyond simply solving for an answer to connecting and explaining the physics behind the solution.

We celebrate progress, push students to grow, and communicate regularly with parents. Parent after parent has described watching their student go from believing they couldn’t do Physics to earning A’s and strong AP scores.

FAQs

Dr. Maya holds a PhD and brings subject mastery to every session. More importantly, she has a proven ability to connect with students who feel lost in Physics and rebuild their confidence alongside their understanding. Many of our Physics students are now alumni who came to us after struggling with other tutors without success.

Yes. AP Physics 1 is algebra-based but conceptually rigorous, and the AP exam is widely considered one of the most difficult in the AP program. It emphasizes deep conceptual understanding and the ability to explain reasoning in writing, not just solve equations. We specifically prepare students for the AP exam format, including the multi-part free-response questions that require written justification.

Yes. AP Physics C is calculus-based and among the most rigorous AP courses offered. We tutor both Mechanics and Electricity & Magnetism, and we coordinate with students’ AP Calculus background to make sure the mathematical tools needed are in place.

This is one of the most common reasons families come to us. When a teacher’s pace or style doesn’t match how a student learns, it creates gaps that compound quickly. We slow down, ask questions, and work at the student’s pace until understanding is      there — not just surface-level familiarity.

Ideally, students begin tutoring at the start of the school year. However, students who begin in January or February still have time to make meaningful progress before the AP exam. For students starting later, we prioritize high-yield topics and exam strategy to make the most of the available time.
